Gratitude #6

Gratitude #6

This first month of summer was generously sunny and filled with great moments. I wish I could rewind and relive them all over again:

Long Summer Nights...

One of the perks of living in Northern Europe is the longer daylight. The sky gets dark past midnight, which offers extended days and more opportunities to enjoy borrels (afterwork drinks) and dinners in the sun.

... And a Heat Wave

The average summer temperature is usually 20 C in the Netherlands, it is rarely above 30 C. We had a short heat wave this month and it was pleasant thanks to the the sea breeze.

However, in France the temperatures were much higher and unbearable, especially in the city. My brother launched with Célestine a campaign #donnetoneau to encourage people to donate water to homeless. Sadly some people refuse to offer water (even tap water) to those in need. It is a simple gesture that can make a big difference, so don't hesitate to share water!

Feeling 15 Again

When you see on stage the musicians who rocked your entire adolescence, you feel young again! Earlier this month, my friend Merel and I were fortunate to attend Hanson's 25th Anniversary concert at the Paradiso in Amsterdam. Although the sound in this venue was poor, it was an intimate show packed with screaming ladies... Yet, my favorite concert this month was Blink-182's in Rotterdam, with a very different crowd (picture punk fans vs. me with my pink purse and shoes). They performed many old classics and had such great energy! My friend Aliaa sang louder then them. I never thought that I would ever see these two bands live but miracles do happen!

A Bit of Self-care

I managed to squeeze in a long overdue haircut and my first pedicure of the season. The esthetician kindly offered me a glass pink prosecco, which made me feel like a princess! Except that my tolerance for alcohol is low and this single glass got me drunk by noon. I had to sit on a bench to regain my senses while waiting for B to pick me up... so much for self-care!

Champagne Macarons

More alcohol with this lovely champagne macaron from the bakery Delicious Sweetness in Den Haag. The shell is dusted with glittery powder and the ganache in-between is light and sparkly. And nope, you can't get drunk from it!

Dinner with Friends

This plant is a calathea. Thanks Merel and Aliaa for the gifts!

We had a very social month and hosted our first dinner & game board night in our new home. Our friends spoiled us with new candles and this plant.

Watermelon

Watermelon is my favorite fruit and we randomly stumbled upon these cute napkins. I am proud to serve them to our guests.

Summer Prints & Texture

Pretty prints uplift my mood especially if they are colorful! We bought a lovely rug with stripes and I found this scarf with coral patterns during the Den Haag Shopping Night.

Pirates Marathon

Captain Jack Sparrow is one of my favorite movie characters so when the fifth episode of the Pirates of the Caribbean hit theaters, I simply couldn't miss it. B had never seen any of them so we had a movie marathon for an entire week and hummed the theme song for days. Then, we watched the last episode at the cinema. I forced him to stay seated in the theater until the last scene (post-credits), it always gives a hint of the next sequel.

One of my favorite quotes is from the first movie:

"I think we've all arrived at a very special place. Spiritually, ecumenically, grammatically."

― Captain Jack Sparrow

Labradors

We hope to welcome a labrador in our family some day but our current work rhythm doesn't allow it yet. In the meantime, I enjoy petting strangers' dogs and watching labs on social media. This viral video made me laugh so much that I recently started following Facebook pages about labradors. Everyday, it makes me smile and educates me more about this species.

New Novel

Sophie Kinsella writes funny romantic stories. She just released a new novel around the theme of social comparison, this couldn't be more on trend!

That's all for the month of June! I am currently preparing my summer Fun List and plan to share it with you. In the meantime, I wish you a restful summer!
